Race #5 of the Wiltshire Off Road Race League (WORRL)
The Avebury8 Nine is a 9-mile-ish trail race which takes place in the Wiltshire countryside, starting and finishing at Avebury. The start is in Bray Street and the race takes runners north to Yatesbury Lane, through Yatesbury, then back to Avebury High Street to finish next to the club house.
Trail conditions in November can of course vary widely, but we hope that after a dry summer, autumn rains will ensure a classic Avebury8 experience, including a liberal supply of mud and puddles on a route that's not too hilly but challenging.
Be prepared for a mixture of chalk tracks, some uneven ruts, short tarmac stretches, various footpaths and a traverse of neolithic Windmill Hill followed by a wonderful downhill run towards the fields leading back to Avebury village.
All finishers get a hand-thrown Avebury8 mug (much sought after!) and there will be refreshments including many cakes, with all proceeds proudly donated to the Wiltshire & Bath Air Ambulance.
